Whether it’s your first tan or your 110th, proper preparation is the key to a flawless spray tan. We highly recommend that Glo customers use our salon-verified prep kits to prepare for your first couple of sprays. The kit includes salon-tested products that will help you exfoliate, clean, and moisturize your skin before and after your appointment. It is recommended to use the kit one or more days in advance of your appointment for optimal results.

Prep kits are $28 and can be purchased in the salon or by clicking here.

During your final shower before your appointment where you will be using the prep kit, wash hair first (if needed) and shave any body parts you would normally shave. Exfoliate with the cleanser and mitt from head to toe, then apply the moisturizing cream after you’ve dried.

Additionally, any nail, facial, or waxing appointments should be handled at least 2-3 hours in advance to your appointment. On the day of your appointment, refrain from using any lotions or applying deodorant.

When you arrive at Glo, if you haven’t already removed your makeup, we will provide a remover cloth to do so. Remove any make up or residual lotion that may be on your skin.

Following these steps will ensure your skin is in the ultimate condition to apply a spray tan. As we mentioned, proper preparation is one of the most crucial points to ensuring your spray tan comes out glowing.

preparing for your tan

Like preparation, after-care of your spray tan is equally as important to ensure your tan reaches its full potential.

When you come to your appointment, remember to bring loose-fitting clothing to wear for the remainder of the day. If you are going to sleep before your first rinse, continue to wear loose clothing to avoid skin to skin contact.

Most importantly, avoid getting wet, including sweating, until you are ready to shower. A warm water rinse only is recommended between 5-7 hours, followed by your usual shower routine after 24 hours. During showers, do not exfoliate, use a loofah, or any type of scrub until you are ready for your tan to come off. If you must shave, use a new razor. After you shower or get wet otherwise, pat dry only.

Skin hydration is a key factor in extending the life of your tan. After every shower, moisturize your skin with salon-approved lotion as these will not neutralize the DHA or streak your tan. Salt water and chlorine can affect the longevity of your tan. Your tan has a lifespan of 7-10 days when you stay hydrated and moisturized.
